Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone uses Roane County Criminal History, why it is used, and when an outside service may receive it. It also explains the difference between site-visit data and public records maintained by West Virginia or Roane County agencies. Continuing to browse or use a search feature means you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its own results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, we retain the message as needed to answer it. We keep it within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers may receive routine technical details whenever a page loads:

  • Page-view dates, times, and duration
  • Your device type and operating system
  • Browser type and version
  • The pages visited on this site
  • Your device's IP address
  • A referring website, when supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Small cookie files and analytics services help measure traffic, popular pages, and site performance. You may block cookies through browser controls, although some functions could then work differently. Analytics reports generally combine visits so we can see broad patterns.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnose errors and other technical problems
  • Maintain speed, availability, and security
  • Route a query to the selected search partner
  • Measure which pages visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, compile, or sell a personal criminal-record database. Roane County court files, Sheriff reports, WVDCR custody entries, West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau history, and West Virginia Sex Offender Registry profiles remain with their government custodians. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power search fields found on some pages. Their privacy terms, not this policy, govern the information submitted directly to their tools. Each partner controls its own retention, pricing, processing, and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Roane County offices, West Virginia agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising services may use their own systems to recognize activity across sites and choose ads. We do not operate those systems.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be handled by:

  • Advertising networks that serve ads
  • Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a query you submit
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information in our control. No internet service is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach or loss will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights vary with the law that applies to you and the data involved. You may ask to review, correct, or erase personal information we hold, or object to certain processing where applicable. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act governs access to government records, not a general right to this private site's visitor data. W. Va. Code ยง15-2-24 separately controls dissemination of covered State Police criminal information.

  • Ask what personal information we retain
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Seek deletion where the law permits
  • Object to eligible processing or withdraw consent

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. The new text and effective date will appear here when an update takes effect.
